KEYNOTE

Advocate Pansy Tlakula is the Chairperson of the Information Regulator of South Africa. She studied law at the University of the Witwatersrand and holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard University. She has held several influential positions, including her appointment in 2005 as a member of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), where she served for 12 years until November 2017. During her tenure, she held the mandates of Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information, Chairperson of the Working Group on Specific Issues related to the work of the African Commission, and, from 2015 to 2017, Chairperson of the ACHPR. In January 2020, she commenced a four-year term as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. 

OUR PRESENTERS

Ilze Luttig Hattingh is an attorney specialising in privacy and data protection compliance, AI governance and plain language legal drafting. She co-authored Over-thinking the Protection of Personal Information Act: The last POPIA book you will ever need. She is a regular contributor to Juta POPIA Portal and is known for her practical, accessible approach to complex regulatory issues.

Nathan-Ross Adams is the founder and managing director of ITLawCo, advising innovative organisations on how to safely, lawfully and profitably leverage frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence. He is currently developing an AI safety programme focused on the intersection of AI, grand strategy and geopolitics, aimed at equipping African leaders to navigate emerging technologies responsibly. Nathan-Ross has contributed to the African Union’s draft AI white paper and South Africa’s national AI strategy, and brings deep expertise in data privacy, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance across complex jurisdictions.

Nerushka Bowan is a technology and privacy lawyer, keynote speaker, and founder of the LITT Institute (Law, Innovation, Technology Tomorrow). She works at the intersection of law, AI, and emerging technology, advising organisations on governance, data protection, and regulatory compliance. As Vice Chairperson of the LSSA AI Committee, she is a recognised thought leader on responsible AI and what it means for the future of professional practice.
