'At 24, I can already make a huge impact'

 No full-time job, but full-time voluntary work instead. That’s what Aniek Moonen decided on graduating from Leiden University College, when she started work as a committee member of the Young Climate Movement (Jonge Klimaatbeweging). As its Chair, she joins CEOs and government ministers in discussions about the climate goals.

Breakthrough artificial photosynthesis comes closer 

Imagine we could do what green plants can do: photosynthesis. Then we could satisfy our enormous energy needs with deep-green hydrogen and climate-neutral biodiesel. Chemist Chengyu Liu received his doctorate for a step that brings artificial photosynthesis closer. He expects it to be commonplace in fifty years.

Information as a battleground – why do we believe fake news?

Alongside traditional media channels such as TV and newspapers, the rise of social media has made it incredibly quick and easy to inform the public. Do we have a clear enough picture of the spread of disinformation? Honorata Mazepus was awarded a grant by the Leiden University Fund to research disinformation.
